How It All Began
Whispers of Love Foundation Uganda was founded in 2021 by twin sisters Esther and Janet with one simple belief: every child deserves the opportunity to learn, feel safe and dream of a brighter future.
Their journey began when they met three children in their community in Namulanda who were unable to attend school because their families could not afford the fees. Two of the children were orphans living with their grandmother.
Moved by their situation, the sisters began by paying the school fees for all three children. They believed that, even if they couldn’t change every child’s circumstances overnight, they could make a difference by starting with just a few.
As more children in need came forward, the sisters began looking for a way to offer support to more families in their community.
From a Garage Library to a School
With limited resources, Esther and Janet transformed part of their family home into a small community library and learning centre. It wasn’t a traditional school, but it became a place filled with curiosity, laughter and learning, where children could read, play and share meals in a welcoming environment.
As more families heard about their work, more children joined, and the space soon became too small to meet the growing need.
Thanks to the support of friends, volunteers and others who believed in their vision, the learning centre continued to develop into a community school.
Together, they created a place where children could access education, feel supported and become part of a wider community.

The School Today
Today, Whispers of Love provides free education, daily meals and a caring learning environment for more than 40 children in Namulanda.
The school has grown into a larger space, with dedicated classrooms where children learn, play and spend their days together.
The children learn in three groups — Monkeys, Hippos and Elephants — with lessons in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, reading, writing, creative arts and life skills. The community library gives them access to books and learning materials, while music, art, games and outdoor activities offer different ways to explore, create and discover new interests.
For some children, this is where their journey with reading, writing and formal learning begins. Every new skill, proud achievement and friendship is another step forward.
A Community at Heart
Namulanda is a community where people depend on one another. Many families rely on stone quarrying, gardening and fishing for their income, and education can be out of reach for many children.
Whispers of Love brings people together through learning, shared activities and cultural exchange, creating connections between children, families, neighbours and volunteers.
Local caregivers help with daily activities, prepare meals and visit children’s homes. During Cultural Days, elders and grandmothers share stories, traditions, cooking and dances, passing on local knowledge and values such as kindness, respect and helping one another.
International volunteers bring new skills and perspectives while learning from the community. Some return year after year, building lasting connections through friendship and shared experiences.

Building Our New School
In 2025, Whispers of Love secured land on Bussi Island, Uganda, to build a new eco-friendly boarding school and children’s home.
The vision is to create a safe place where children can learn, live and grow together, with classrooms, accommodation, a community library and outdoor learning spaces. The children will also be able to grow their own vegetables and food in the gardens, learning practical skills while helping provide fresh meals. Clean water, renewable energy and sustainable building methods will be at the heart of the project.
The work has already begun. Every week, the team travels to the island to work on the land, prepare the fields and take steps towards making this vision a reality. There is still much to do, but every contribution brings the project closer to completion.
With the help of donations, volunteers and supporters, we can build a lasting home for learning and care, giving more children the opportunity to grow up with education, support and a brighter future.
